Child found dead in SUV identified

By Mary Manning · June 10, 2008 · 5 PM

The Clark County Department of Family Services had investigated allegations of child abuse or neglect of a family member in the Stan and Colleen Rimer family twice in the past 20 years, the agency disclosed today.

The body of 4-year-old Jason Rimer was discovered in the family's SUV parked outside their home, 4935 E. Cleveland Ave., near Sahara Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, about 8:30 a.m. Monday. The child had been inside the vehicle for about 17 hours.

"We do have a history with the family," said family services spokeswoman Christine Skorupski. "They do have previous reports."

However, Skorupski could not detail any of the allegations or reports because there is an investigation underway, she said.

The county's Child Protective Services most recently contacted the family and the investigation was closed in May 2007, because the allegation was unsubstantiated.

Another contact with the family involved a "substantiated allegation" in 1988.

The family has seven children, all boys. One boy is on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Canada. Four children were taken into protective services after the 4-year-old boy's body was discovered.

A 14-year-old brother found Jason in the SUV.
