A police sting conducted through AOL's "I Love Older Men" chatroom led to the arrest of a 55-year-old Seaford man on charges that he distributed child pornography and tried to entice minors into having sex, authorities said Thursday.
Carl Liedke of Island Channel Road, Seaford, appeared in U.S. District Court in White Plains Thursday and was ordered held on those charges.
The United States Attorney's office said Liedke contacted an undercover Westchester police officer posing as two 15-year-old girls through the AOL "Special Interest" chat room from March until earlier this month, and sent them, "sexually explicit pictures of underage girls; and ... discussed his desire to have sex with the 'girls' at his home, at a hotel near her residence, on a boat or while traveling."
If convicted of the most serious charge of child enticement, Liedke could face a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, federal prosecutors said. If convicted on the child pornography charge, he could face a minimum sentence of five years, and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Armed with a search warrant, law enforcement officers entered Liedke's home in Seaford Tuesday and confiscated a laptop computer, two computer hard drives, CDs, DVDs, diskettes, and other items, authorities said.
Kenneth Schaeffer, a Westchester police officer assigned to the FBI task force that was .involved in the operation, said in court papers that after Liedke's arrest, the defendant admitted sending the officers more than 25 images con.taining child pornography.
Neither Liedke nor his attorney could be reached Thursday for comment.
