SULLIVAN — A Linton man accused of distributing child pornography in California was in the custody of the FBI after a traffic stop Thursday led to his arrest.

Phillip E. Caldwell, 62, was stopped by an Indiana State Police trooper heading south on U.S. 41 in Sullivan after the trooper had heard through dispatch that a male driving a vehicle matching Caldwell’s vehicle was wanted on a federal warrant, according to a police news release.

The registration plate on Caldwell’s white box truck matched the plate number that was dispatched, the news release stated.

Caldwell was wanted on a federal warrant issued by the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, on an allegation of distribution of child pornography. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sullivan County jail without incident. The alleged crime took place in September 2005 in Los Angeles.

Members of the FBI took Caldwell into custody shortly after he was booked into the Sullivan jail. He is expected to be transferred to California to face the charge.
