A Butler County woman has proven today that it is possible to fight, not only City Hall, but Children's Services as well. This after what officials are calling an egregious abuse of power by Children's Services, which yanked the woman's daughter away from her for the past year.
In this developing story alert, Local 12's Rich Jaffe says the hope is the same thing will never happen again, to anyone.
In an ugly custody dispute, a year ago, Joetta Street lost all parental rights, even visitation, with her daughter Desirae. Officials say that's because Street's ex-husband, Vince Richardson married a highly placed Children's Services administrator, Michelle Money Richardson, who used her position to take the child away from Street. New officials within the agency say it was a conflict of interest, and improper manipulation at the highest levels.
Mike Fox, Executive Director Children's Services: "There was no basis to remove the child from Joetta street."
December 28, 2007: "I don't know how anyone in authority responsible for this outcome can sleep at night knowing what an injustice has been done."
Fighting for custody like a mother lion, today street and her attorneys won an agreement where she will once again be allowed to visit with her daughter in a controlled situation, with a therapist.
Joetta Street, Mother: "I am very happy, kind of speechless at the time, because I am so happy."
Joetta Street's attorney says this entire case has been about two things, number one, reuniting Street with her daughter, and number two, making sure nothing like this ever happens to anyone else again.
Chris Finney, Street's Attorney: "What happened here was a very powerful spouse of the ex-husband manipulated the system. I mean the reality is this could happen to anybody if we're not more vigilant about these systems. So, we've righted the first wrong today and we'll continue to right the second."
Joetta Street says the message is when it comes to your kids, never give up, and...
"I would like to tell my daughter I love her and I will be seeing her soon."
Michelle Money Richardson has recently resigned from Butler County Children's Services, her immediate superiors have also been replaced. Joetta Street's therapeutic visitations with her daughter could begin as early as this week.

The father got full custody of this girl. There is always more than what is in the media and knowing the father got full custody says alot about this mother.
BUTLER COUNTY SYSTEM IS A LET DOWN TO EVERY CITIZEN INVOLVED IN THIS COMMUNITY. I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING MY DAUGHTER'S DEADBEAT FATHER WHO ABANDONED HER NOT ONLY WHEN I ADVISED HIM I WAS PREGNANT WITH HER BUT ALSO FOR THE FIRST 4 YEARS OF HER LIFE!!! THE SYSTEM DOES NOT LOOK AT THE PAST THEY LOOK AT THE HERE AND NOW AND THAT IS GARBAGE! THIS MAN DOES NOT DESERVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISRUPT HER LIFE! HE CHOSE TO STAY AWAY FOR ALL THAT TIME AND NOW COMES BACK IN AND DISRUPTS HER STABILITY, HER COMFORT AND HER LIFESTYLE! BUTLER COUNTY USES THEIR OWN SET OF RULES AND THEY ABUSE THEM!
